During our closed season we are certainly not sitting back relaxing with our feet up but instead planning ahead to safely welcome our next visitors onto the farm.
Training? You may wonder who & what type of training we require as a farmer? Well, the answer being there is always something new to be learning. Whether it being 1st Aid, vehicle operator training, training the sheepdog (or handler) to administering new medicines or taking time in the farm office to brush up on social & digital media skills, there is always improvement to be made.
The farming environment in Inverclyde near Glasgow is always challenging and thus we require to be open minded in accepting change to traditional farming practise. Change can often lead to learning new processes or how to operate a new piece of equipment which all require training and often comes at a cost to the business.
Whilst offering our family friendly lambing experiences and outstanding informative farm trailer tours near Glasgow in the heart of the West of Scotland, we really do need to have many strings to our bow to look after the land and animals in peak condition. We train to be agronomists, environmentalists, stock person, accountants, vets, machine operators, marketing experts, tour guides, media experts…….the list is endless!
So, why do we do it? We love our healthy outdoor lifestyle and raising our children in the fresh air of the countryside. We are trying to provide a sustainable business & training for the next generation should they wish to continue the family business in the future.
