Lambing has not yet started, however James recently took advantage of the dry spell of weather to crack on with some Spring field work.
Here he can be seen harrowing the grass which the ewes will be lambing on –
Harrowing removes the old thatch and gives new shoots the room and oxygen they need to grow. By aerating the soil it also improves water filtration, reduces disease by exposing fungi & bacteria to sunlight and levels mole hills. This all helps to promote new grass growth.
Harrowing is one of the most environmentally friendly ways of carrying out grass management.
