Monday was a typical Scottish dreich December day but work goes on. We brought all the ewes and tups into the handling system to separate the tups (Rams) off them as the mating season is over for the ewes and a well earned rest in store for the boys.
The ewes are given a complete health check and separated depending on their age and body condition. Any sore feet are treated as we now want to keep handling the animals to a minimum whilst the are hopefully pregnant. They then return to fresh pasture until being ultra-sound scanned at the end of January. We are really pleased with the general condition of the whole flock this year.
The tups have a well earned rest after being out partying and having fun at a ratio of 1 male to 40 females for the past 6 weeks. They go out into a lovely fresh green field of grass and also get some concentrate feeding every day to help put weight back on them after all their exercise.
