It’s not just all about sheep at Muirhouse. We mustn’t forget our other pregnant ladies – the beef cows.
As we hopefully edge ever closer to the end of the winter and the cows get heavier in calf, they are more prone to sore feet. We footbath them regularly to disinfect and clean their feet to prevent lesions and infections spreading.
One of the major causes of lameness in cows is a bacterial disease called Digital Dermatitis which affects the skin on their heels. Regular footbathing helps harden the hoofs and prevent this disease resulting in happy animals which perform well for the business.
